POEMS OF FRIENDSHIP

A FRIEND IS A TREASURE
Friend is a Treasure A friend is someone we turn to,
when our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure,
for our friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives,
with beauty, joy and grace.
And make the world we live in,
a better and happier place.
FRIENDSHIPS COME AND FRIENDSHIPS GO
Friendships come and Friendships go Like wave upon the sand
Like day and night
Like birds in flight
Like snowflakes when they land
But you and I are something else
Our friendship's here to stay
Like weeds and rocks and dirty socks
It never goes away!
TRUE FRIENDSHIP

True friends are for life
 Until the end
 They're more than special
 They're your bestest friends.

They're the ones you can go to
 When you're in despair
 The ones that'll help you
Even when you got gum in your hair!

 They're the ones who'll laugh
And go laughing with you all through the night
 The ones who'll help you
Help you with all their might

 To have a good friend
 You have to be one
So be nice to one another
So you can be friends forever
And that\'s how to be the best friend you can be.

A BEST FRIEND

A best friend
is always there,
whether you need advice,
or a pep talk,
or even a shoulder to cry on.
A best friend
listens with her heart
and is always honest with you,
even though the truth
may not be
what you want to hear.
A best friend
knows all your secrets,
understands your fears
shares your dreams.
A best friend
never stops believing in you
even if you give up
on yourself.
you are
that kind of friend
to me.
And no matter what happens,
you always will be.
You are my best friend....
my forever friend.

PREVENT CANCER

Cancer prevention is easier than you think. With a few simple lifestyle changes, you can drastically reduce your risk of many types of cancer. Many factors play a role in cancer development, but the good news is that most can be avoided.

1. Avoid Smoking and Exposure to Smoke

Smoking is the most significant cancer risk factor that we can reduce. It is responsible for not only lung cancer, but many other types of cancer. One of the best ways to prevent cancer is to quit smoking or never start. As soon as you quit, and it's never too late, your body reaps the benefits of being tobacco-free.

Avoiding secondhand smoke is also a way to prevent cancer. Secondhand smoke is the smoke exhaled from a smoker or a lit cigarette, pipe or cigar. This smoke contains more than 60 known carcinogens". These carcinogens interrupt normal cell development. This interference is what ignites cancer development.

2. Practice Sun Safety and Recognize When Skin Changes Occur

Did you know that over one million Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer each year? Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer among men and women, and it accounts for about half of all cancer diagnoses. The good news is that skin cancer is one of the most preventable types of cancer.

The first step in preventing skin cancer is to avoid UV ray exposure. We can do this by wearing sunscreen, avoiding mid-day sun, wearing protective clothing when outdoors, and by staying away from tanning beds. Here are some tips to get you started:

3. Eat Your Fruits and Veggies

A well-balanced diet is advantageous for many reasons. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables greatly reduces your risk of developing cancer and many other conditions.

Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants, which help repair our damaged cells. Green, orange and yellow fruits and vegetables are your best bet to help prevent cancer. Studies also show that dark fruits, like blueberries and grapes, may also have anti-cancer properties.

Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower appear to pack a powerful punch at preventing cancer, according to numerous studies. Other cruciferous vegetables include bok choy, Brussel sprouts, and cabbage.

4. Limit Red Meat and Animal Fat

Numerous studies show that a diet high in animal fat increases the risk for several types of cancer, particularly colon cancer. Red meat contains much more fat than poultry and fish, so reducing the amount of red meat in your diet may help to prevent cancer. A diet high in fat also is major cause of obesity, which is a risk factor for many types of cancer.

5. Limit Your Alcohol Intake

Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol regularly increases your risk factor for many types of cancer. Studies suggest that men who consume 2 alcoholic drinks per day and women who have 1 alcoholic drink per day significantly increase their risk factors for certain types of cancer.

PREVENT INFLUENZA

How can you prevent influenza?

  • Avoid people who are sick - keep a distance from them.
  • Stay home if you are sick. Don’t spread germs.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • Wash your hands frequently and wash them well.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often carried on your hands.
  • Get a flu shot.
About the flu shot: The best way to protect yourself from influenza is to receive an annual influenza vaccine (a flu shot). This will immunize (protect) you against one or more strains of the virus. A flu vaccine uses an inactivated (killed) virus that cannot cause infection but instead, causes the body to produce antibodies (proteins that fight the virus). The vaccine is based on the strains of the flu viruses that are common at the time. Flu viruses change over time. That is why you must get a new shot every fall. Even then, some people may still catch a different type of flu that scientists were not expecting.
Flu shots are usually given at doctors’ offices and in health departments in the fall and winter. Now they are also offered at places in your neighborhood like drugstores. You should get vaccinated 6 to 8 weeks before flu season begins to give your body time to acquire immunity. This should prevent you from getting infected or at least reduce the severity of flu if you do catch it. However, if you are exposed to the virus soon after you are vaccinated you may still catch it. That is why you should get the shot early in the flu season.
The vaccine itself cannot cause the flu, but as with almost any medical procedure, there may be side effects of the vaccine. The most common side effect is mild soreness where the shot was given. Soreness can last up to two days and rarely affects daily activities. A small number of people, most often children, might also develop a slight fever within 24 hours. They may have chills or a headache, or feel a little sick. People who already have a cold or breathing problem may find their symptoms worsen. Usually none of these reactions lasts for more than a few days. Because the vaccine virus is grown in chicken eggs, a few people who are allergic to eggs are in danger of allergic reaction, but this is rare. If you are concerned, ask your doctor. You can be treated for the allergy.

TIPS FOR LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP

The First Few Months, the First Year, and Beyond
Relationships are split into different periods of time. I like to think of these periods, as far as I have experienced them, as going in a few general stages. First there is the period of time before the relationship, where you are first meeting the person and getting to know them. Then there is the very beginning day, week, or even month, where there is a thrill of excitement for getting to know the person, and then there are some common shifting phases. These phases can occur at 1-3 months into the relationship, 6 months in, a year in, 2 years in, and possibly many other points in time. And interestingly, as a relationship progresses there seem to be less and less “major” thrill points the longer a couple is together.
So if a couple is together for a few weeks, there is often a massive amount of occurrences just within that short period of time that will happen that will determine whether or not that couple was compatible. After a period of a few months, there is usually some stages that occur around this time that serve as test beds to the entire relationship. By the end of that period of time, there will have been room for some sort of emotional low or crisis to happen in either one of the couples’ lives and this is used as some sort of “test” to determine the inner feelings of the other person, usually it is the girl who does this to the guy, and it is even unintentional. At 6 months, the issue of sex often enters the relationship, and as we’ve all heard, “sex can complicate things.” At the passing of the very first, first year anniversary, you have the issue of the anniversary itself, as well as a common ‘settling in’ of both the mood and tone in the relationship, as well as thoughts of commitment, or even marriage.

SEX TIPS FOR LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP

After an impressive couple of decades, you may feel that you know everything there is to know about your other half. You could well do - but that is all the more reason to open yourself up to a few surprises in your sex life.
With so many years under your belt, there will have been times when you may not always have been able to give your love life the attention it deserves. Why not spend some time making it, and each other, Number One Priority again? It could be a fabulous way of injecting some of the thrills back into your relationship.
Firstly, you could transform the backdrop to your relationship with a refreshing change of scenery. Pack up and go somewhere wonderful for the weekend, a romantic country house or a smart spot in town. Taking time out from your usual four walls gives you the opportunity to enjoy each other's company in a fresh setting and rediscover that special spark.
If you are not able to go away, you can still create a special evening for yourselves at home - just light some candles, lock the doors and turn the spare room into a lovers' den for the night. You can go a step further and turn your home back into the sexy nest it may once have been - banish any kids and try making love in all - yes, ALL - the rooms of the house.

RELAX ON SINGAPORE

Fashionable Flair

The boutique hotel Wanderlust in Little India is made for guests with a sense of adventure.  Located in an old settlement where Indian immigrants once reared cattle and livestock, the building began its history in the 1920s as the Hong Wen School, where it still retains its old-world charm with an unchanged façade.

The four storey boutique hotel has 29 rooms, each featuring the groundbreaking work of award-winning Singapore design agencies Asylum, PhunkStudio and fFurious – the first-ever hotel project for each design firm. Working alongside them is Singaporean architectural firm DP Architects.

Just as there are no identical rooms, the same can be said for each floor in the hotel. Each agency was given full creative freedom to design an entire level in the hotel, resulting in four, different ‘in-your-face’ themes – ‘Industrial Glam’, ‘Eccentricity’, ‘Is It Just Black or White?‘ and ’Creature Comforts’.

Wanderlust also plays host to traditional French restaurant Cocotte at the lobby. Helmed by Chef Anthony Yeoh, it offers French cuisine with a menu that serves up rustic recipes in a casual, communal setting. Designed by Chris Lee of Asylum, the restaurant features restored timber flooring with old wine crates propped on walls.

TOURIST SPOT IN THE SINGAPORE

An architectural marvel

Linking Marina Bay to Marina Centre, the Helix Bridge, is set to become Singapore’s next landmark. Located beside the Benjamin Sheares Bridge, alongside the vehicular Bayfront Bridge, it was officially opened on 24 April 2010 and is the world’s first curved bridge.

This 280-metre pedestrian linkway – the longest in Singapore – features a world’s first ‘double-helix’ structure, designed by an international design consortium, comprising of Australian architects Cox Group and engineers Arup, together with Singapore-based Architects 61. Inspired by the yin and yang concept in Asian culture, the architecturally unique bridge is said to bring wealth, happiness and prosperity to Marina Bay.

The Helix Bridge is an engineering feat assembled with great precision. Its curved design is created by two opposing spiral steel members, held together by a series of connecting struts, symbolising “life and continuity”, “renewal”, “everlasting abundance” and “growth”,  and resembles the structure of DNA.

One of the connecting bridges will link the three waterfront gardens at Marina South, Marina East and Marina Centre, to form a continuous public waterfront loop, while also linking the Double Helix Bridge to the Marina Bay Sands®, the Singapore Flyer and Gardens by the Bay.

You can catch a panoramic view of the Singapore skyline and watch events taking place at the Bay from one of its five viewing platforms sited at strategic locations. Fritted-glass and steel glass canopies providing shade and seats are also available at resting points. View paintings and drawings by youths along this crossing, or enhance your bridge crossing experience at night with lights that illuminate the steel structure to create different moods. For a memorable experience, be sure to visit this engineering marvel situated in the heart of the city.
